Notes

Manitoba Feline Protection Project

Welcome to the Manitoba Feline Project.  Thank you for supporting cats with no homes find healthcare.

There are many free roaming cats, and colonies of cats in rural and urban Manitoba.  Cats without homes, are requiring coordination to spay, neuter services and basic vaccinations for health. Teams of volunteers are overextended and require funds to pay for coordination of services, to pay for spay, neuter and basic vaccinations.

This project is dedicated to those cats, to providing immediate relief in aligning donations and sponsorship dollars to spay and neuter, vaccination costs and longer term infrastructure and capacity development for our project partner Fixing Feral Felines to provide service.

Project management, management coaching, consulting and funds administration is provided by the Project Blue World Project Management Grant.  Project Managers are provided through the Project Management Institute of Manitoba Projects for Social Goods program. Thank you to these and other volunteers, staff, suppliers, donors, sponsors and partners.

Goal

Spay, neuter and vaccination of all free roaming cats in Manitoba by 2030, with network of services in place to maintain.

Expected Result

Free roaming cats networking to service as required.  Educated communities of people.  Ongoing subsidized programs for cats and ongoing education, public forums and workshops to engage and inform community around feline and animal safety. The effect on ecology and the bird population are also in the needs analysis, providing long reaching ecology effects by providing felines network to services in rural areas.

 Coordinating Cats to Care

Fixing Feral Felines team answers calls daily and provides coaching, instructions for how to capture cats, how to obtain a trap and a kennel for transport, how to keep the cat safe until time of transport.  FFF coordinates appointments for veterinary care, spay and neutering, vaccinations and other medical care required between the ‘feline finder’ and veterinarians.   FFF tracks and manages the details of the medical services, between the cat finder, the veterinarian and other rescue and non profit animal support teams like the Winnipeg Humane Society.

What is cost of care?

Basic services, spay, neuter and vaccination is $200+/- per cat in Manitoba

How many cats are there, what does that look like for the province of Manitoba?

Example; 5 colonies of cats per Manitoba region x 15 cats per colony x 137 regions*= 10,275 cats x $200 = $2,055,000 for basic medical services.

(*137 regions/municipalities;  cities + rural municipalities + towns + villages)
